Hinds Men’s Tennis Beats Marion Military 6-3

RAYMOND, Miss. — The Hinds Community College men’s tennis team secured a 6-3 victory over Marion Military Institute on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles took control early by winning the doubles point. In doubles play, Pablo De Haro Esteban and Jaume Socias Capella lost 8-6 at No. 1. Dennis Hayes Jr. and Miguel Beltran Lopez dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 2. Hinds earned a key win at No. 3, where Henry Slayton and Bryan Roldan received a walkover to secure the point.

Hinds carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. De Haro Esteban led the way at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Socias Capella advanced after his opponent retired, taking the match 6-4, 0-0. Beltran Lopez posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Hayes Jr. added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5. Levi Elkins also earned a point at No. 6 through a walkover.

Marion Military Institute’s lone singles victory came at No. 4, where Henry Slayton was defeated 6-0, 6-0. Hinds is scheduled to return to action March 20 against Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, with first serve set for 11 a.m.
