Henderson State edges MC baseball 8-5

Mississippi College’s baseball team fell to Henderson State 8-5 Tuesday at Frierson Field. The Choctaws are now 4-8 on the season, and the Reddies improved to 5-3, according to school officials.

Will Langston led MC with three hits and an RBI. Tyler Sanderson contributed with a double and two RBIs. It was the second multiple-hit game for Langston this season, and Sanderson’s team-leading fourth multi-RBI effort.

MC jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. JT Thigpen walked, Langston singled, and Sanderson hit a two-run double down the right field line. Henderson State responded in the fourth, tying the game with RBI hits from Adam Garcia and Grant Fitch.

The Choctaws took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Cade Gadman scored on a groundout by A.J. Johnson. The Reddies seized control in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on a fielding error and walks. Nate Moore’s two-RBI single highlighted the rally, giving Henderson State a 6-3 lead.

In the seventh, Nick Slonaker scored on Langston’s RBI single to trim the deficit. Henderson State added two unearned runs in the eighth on Mason Krznarich’s double, extending its lead to 8-4. MC scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth on Sam Kachourof’s groundout, but the Reddies held on for the win.

Eight pitchers appeared for MC, with Kamryn Carlisle taking the loss (1-1). Carlisle allowed three runs on one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Connor Pittman started and pitched 2.2 innings, striking out two and walking two. David Andrus earned the win for Henderson State, tossing an inning and allowing one hit.

Moore led the Reddies with two hits and two RBIs. Krznarich also contributed with two RBIs. Mississippi College returns to Gulf South Conference play Friday, hosting Montevallo at 2 p.m., according to athletic officials.
