Georgia Southern, Mississippi State Sweeps Alcorn Women’s Tennis

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Alcorn State Women’s Tennis suffered two straight 4-0 defeats Friday at A.J. Pitts Tennis Center. The Braves lost to Georgia Southern in the morning and Mississippi State in the evening, both non-conference matches.

Georgia Southern dominated the opening match, securing the doubles point with sweeps at all three positions. Alcorn’s Hana Bajramovic and Amelia Tatafu played at No. 1 doubles but lost 6-2. The Eagles won both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches 6-1, 6-1.

In singles, Bajramovic led 2-1 in her second set against Georgia Southern’s Angelina Mihajlovic before falling 6-2 in the first set. The match was unfinished when other results clinched the overall win for Georgia Southern.

Later, Mississippi State claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Bajramovic and Tatafu battled but lost 6-2 to the Bulldogs’ Noemie Oliveras and Carolina Troiano. Alcorn’s singles matches were mostly unfinished, with Katherine Grados and Bajramovic unable to complete their contests.

The Braves are scheduled to face Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. During Friday’s matches, Oihane Villanueva Lopez won two games in her singles match against MSU’s Chiara Di Genova in an abandoned contest, highlighting her effort for Alcorn.
