Florida A&M Women’s Tennis Defeats Alcorn 4-0 in SWAC Match
Montgomery, Ala. — Florida A&M University defeated Alcorn State 4-0 in women’s tennis Saturday afternoon during the Southwestern Athletic Conference Pod #1 event at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on the Alabama State campus.
The Rattlers improved to 3-6 overall and 2-0 in SWAC play, while the Braves fell to 4-13 overall and 1-2 in conference matches. Alcorn had recorded its first SWAC win of the season Friday against Bethune-Cookman.
Florida A&M took an early lead by winning the doubles point. Larissa Silva and Genesis Whitelock beat Hana Bajramovic and Amelia Tatafu 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Luiza Eidelvein and Veronica Rodriguez defeated Katherine Grados and Natalija Nikolic 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. The third doubles match, featuring Sydney Brantley and Alyynah Thomas against Zoe Crimmel and Oihane Villanueva Lopez, was left unfinished at 4-5, with the FAMU duo leading.
The Rattlers clinched the team victory in singles play with three wins. Genesis Whitelock secured the win at No. 2, beating Tatafu 6-3, 6-2. Luiza Eidelvein posted the most dominant performance, defeating Nikolic 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Alyynah Thomas completed the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Katherine Grados at No. 6.
Three singles matches were in progress when the match was decided. Veronica Rodriguez led Bajramovic 6-4, 5-3 at No. 1. Sydney Brantley was ahead 3-6, 6-1, 3-1 against Zoe Crimmel at No. 3. Larissa Silva was up 7-5, 4-2 versus Oihane Villanueva Lopez at No. 4.
