Delta State University guard Kennedee Shelton has been named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Shelton helped the Lady Statesmen go 3-0 in five days last week, improving their conference record to 13-6 and moving into second place with three games remaining in the regular season.

During the winning streak, Shelton averaged 17 points per game, including two career-best performances against Union and West Florida. She scored a career-high 18 points in an 80-70 victory over Union, adding five rebounds and shooting 8-for-13 from the field.

In a game against Valdosta State, Shelton tallied 11 points, grabbed three rebounds and shot 3-for-4 from the field despite battling foul trouble. She surpassed her previous career-high with 22 points in Saturday’s 78-65 win over West Florida and tied her season high with three steals.

The Lady Statesmen are preparing for the Gulf South Conference tournament, with hopes of hosting a first-round game. They will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee, to face Lee University on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. CT.
