Delta State’s Adrian Byrd Named GSC Pitcher of the Week

Delta State University pitcher Adrian Byrd has been named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Byrd delivered one of the most efficient performances of the season, tossing eight shutout innings with a perfect game into the sixth inning. He held Union without a hit into the seventh, allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking none in Friday’s 9-2 victory.

The senior left-hander faced only two batters over the minimum and needed just 91 pitches to complete his outing. Byrd’s season record now stands at 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and four walks across three starts.

He is scheduled to face West Florida on Friday at 5 p.m. at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.
