Delta State Women’s Tennis Opens 2026 Season 2-0 with Doubleheader Wins
The Delta State University women’s tennis team started its 2026 season with two wins Friday at the UTD Tennis Complex in Richardson, Texas. The Lady Statesmen defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State and UT Dallas by 4-2 scores, moving to 2-0 on the year, according to school officials.
In the opener against Southeastern Oklahoma State, Delta State dropped the doubles point but responded with four singles victories. Amelia Ciesielczyk earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Anastasiia Iakovlieva won at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4, while Lena Kuehn added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5. Angie Moreno sealed the team win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
Later Friday afternoon, Delta State faced UT Dallas. The Lady Statesmen secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, 6-4 and 6-3, respectively. In singles play, Ciesielczyk rallied for a three-set victory at No. 1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Yasmina Mayer won at No. 3 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, and Iakovlieva clinched the match with a win at No. 4, 6-4, 6-3.
Delta State demonstrated depth in singles, earning seven individual wins across both matches. The team overcame a doubles deficit in the first match and maintained control in the second. The wins set a positive tone for the season as the Lady Statesmen prepare for their next match against Western New Mexico on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the UTD Tennis Complex.
