Delta State women’s basketball beats AUM with season-high 81 points
Weronika Kaczmarska scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Delta State women’s basketball to an 81-62 victory over Auburn University Montgomery on Thursday night at Sillers Coliseum. The Lady Statesmen improved to 10-8 overall and 8-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
Delta State used a dominant second quarter and interior presence to pull away from AUM, which dropped to 2-19 overall and 2-13 in conference. The game was tied 14-14 after the first quarter. AUM built a seven-point lead midway through the period, but Delta State responded with steady scoring in the paint and second-chance points to stay even after one.
The Lady Statesmen took control in the second quarter, outscoring AUM 25-12. They shot 58% from the field in the period and used a 15-0 run to create separation. Fast-break opportunities from turnovers helped Delta State carry a 39-26 lead into halftime.
AUM pushed back in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to single digits at one point. The visitors won the quarter 22-18 and reduced the gap to 57-48 entering the final period. Delta State responded by attacking the glass and converting around the rim, maintaining its lead.
In the fourth quarter, Delta State pulled away with balanced scoring and efficient interior play. The Lady Statesmen outscored AUM 24-14 in the final 10 minutes, building their largest lead of 22 points late in the game. They finished with a 19-point victory.
Delta State shot 44.4% (32-of-72) from the floor and held a rebounding advantage of 48-43. The team dominated inside, outscoring AUM 46-26 in the paint, and added 19 second-chance points. The bench contributed with 43 points, helping secure the win.
Besides Kaczmarska, Alyse Holliman scored a career-high 15 points. Bramyia Johnson added 12 points with multiple assists. Jariyah Williamson, Kennedee Shelton, Olivia Allen, and Madi Kate Vuncannon also contributed offensively. The team forced 12 turnovers, recorded seven blocked shots, and stole five balls.
Delta State remains at home Saturday to host Montevallo at 2 p.m., participating in We Back Pat to honor Pat Summitt.
