Delta State pitchers shine in 6-1 win over Arkansas Tech
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Delta State University’s baseball team earned a 6-1 victory over Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at Baswell Field. The Statesmen, now 14-10, limited the Wonder Boys to four hits while scoring six runs.
Delta State took the lead in the second inning when Henley Parker hit a two-RBI single. Austin Estes added an RBI single in the fourth, extending the advantage to 3-0. The team broke the game open in the fifth, scoring three runs on key hits, including a two-RBI single from Austin Batts.
On the mound, Mason Shropshire pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out one to earn the win. Relief pitchers Nash Koczka, Jackson Mayer, and Gavin McCoy maintained the lead, limiting Arkansas Tech to one run in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Tyler Sardelli.
Jacob Palazzo led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and three runs scored. Batts contributed two RBIs, and Estes had three hits and an RBI. Arkansas Tech’s only run came in the eighth inning, but it was not enough to threaten the lead.
Delta State is set to host a three-game series against the University of West Alabama, ranked nationally. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Ferriss Field.
