Delta State Men’s Golf Opens Strong at Saint Leo Invitational
DADE CITY, Fla. — The Delta State University men’s golf team opened play at the Saint Leo Invitational Monday, finishing the first two rounds in 10th place with a team score of 274 (-2) at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
The second round is scheduled to conclude Tuesday morning, with 13 of 16 teams still completing their rounds. The Statesmen’s top performer was Ty Werynski, who shot a 69 (-3) in the first round and a 68 (-4) in the second, putting him in seventh place individually after 36 holes.
Werynski’s consistency kept him within striking distance of the leaders as play continues. Hayden Webber opened with a 71 (1-under-par), tying for 19th overall, while Niko Salmi and Peter Blazevic each finished with 72s (even par). Evans Haynie added an 81 in the opening round.
During the second round, Blazevic, Haynie, and Salmi each shot 74 (+2), and Webber posted a 77 (+5). The team combined for a total of 574 strokes, placing them among a tightly contested leaderboard. Play resumes Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. (CT) for the final round.
The team aims to improve their standing in the third round at the par-72, 7,121-yard Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club South Course.
