Delta State Lady Statesmen Softball Hosts Christian Brothers in Conference Series
The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team will host Christian Brothers in a Gulf South Conference series this weekend at University Field, according to school officials. Due to forecasted inclement weather on Saturday, game times have been adjusted. The Lady Statesmen will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m., with a single game scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. The games will be streamed on the FloCollege digital network.
Delta State enters the series with momentum after upsetting seventh-ranked West Florida last weekend and sweeping Henderson State during the week, sources said. Kyleigh Wheaton leads the team with a .431 batting average, including five doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 23 RBIs. Maeve Lavoy has been effective in the circle, posting a 3.72 ERA over 32 innings with a 3-1 record and 19 strikeouts. Carly Dunigan went 4-for-7 with five RBIs in the Henderson State doubleheader and is batting .396 with 15 RBIs, four doubles, and two home runs this season.
Christian Brothers, meanwhile, continues its search for its first conference win after being swept in its previous two series against West Florida and West Alabama. The Bucs are led at the plate by Marin Beeson, who has a .373 batting average and three home runs. Emily Schooler has pitched 60.1 innings, posting a 3-5 record with a 2.67 ERA, 33 walks, and 50 strikeouts, according to team stats.
