Delta State Heads to Jackson for Conference Series With Union

The Delta State University Statesmen baseball team is set to play a Gulf South Conference series against Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, this weekend. The series begins Friday at 5 p.m. with a single game at Fesmire Baseball Field, followed by a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.

Braden Treaster will broadcast the games on the Statesmen Sports Network. The Friday game will air on WMJW 107.5 FM, while the Saturday doubleheader will be on WCLD 1490 AM. Both broadcasts will feature pregame shows starting 30 minutes before first pitch.

Delta State enters the series with a 6-2 record overall and a 3-0 mark in conference play. The team has won four straight games, including a sweep of No. 17 Lee University and an 18-17 walk-off victory over Arkansas Monticello. Jacob Hill leads the team with a .419 batting average, along with 13 hits, one double, one home run, nine RBIs, 14 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. Levi Lang and Austin Estes are also batting in the upper .300s, with Estes having scored 14 runs. Cade Greer has seven stolen bases, while Tucker Jones is perfect on five stolen base attempts.

On the mound, senior Adrian Byrd has pitched 12 innings, striking out 19 batters with a 3.00 ERA. He is expected to start Friday’s game.

Union University enters the weekend with a 7-4 record after defeating Lane College 12-8 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs recently secured a series win over Valdosta State, including two extra-inning games and a doubleheader sweep. Elijah Ramsey was named GSC Player of the Week after batting .447 with five doubles, two home runs, and 18 RBIs. Jordan Allen and Grant Ross each have two home runs this season. The Bulldogs’ bullpen has played a key role, with Cole Lannom posting a 2.31 ERA and Nathan Myers a 3.27 ERA in over 11 innings each, with over 10 strikeouts apiece.
