Delta State Falls to Christian Brothers in Close GSC Battle

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Delta State opened the second half of the 2025–26 Gulf South Conference season with a hard-fought 66-64 loss at Christian Brothers inside Canale Arena Thursday night.

The Statesmen led for nearly 20 minutes and traded momentum throughout the game, which featured 13 lead changes and eight ties. Delta State built an early 10-point advantage midway through the first half, thanks to efficient shooting and strong rebounding. Christian Brothers closed the half on a late surge to take a 33–30 lead at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Delta State quickly retook the lead and responded to every Christian Brothers run in the final minutes. Je’Marion Westbrook led the team with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including three three-pointers. He also added four rebounds and three assists. DaCory Porter posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, anchoring the inside presence for the Statesmen.

The game remained close in the final moments. Delta State pulled even at 63-all with under two minutes remaining. After a series of baskets and free throws, Christian Brothers sealed the victory at the line in the final seconds. A last-second three-point attempt by Delta State narrowly missed as time expired.

Delta State finished shooting 42.4 percent from the field and made nine three-pointers. The team also outscored Christian Brothers 17–3 in bench points and matched the Buccaneers with 15 second-chance points on the boards.

The Statesmen will aim for a quick turnaround as they continue GSC play with a road trip to Jackson to face Union University on Tuesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. (CT).
