Delta State Falls to Arkansas-Monticello in 10-Inning Thriller

Monticello, Ark. — The Delta State University baseball team lost 9-8 in 10 innings to Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday at Union Bank Park. The game featured a late rally by the Statesmen, who finished with 12 hits but came up short against the Boll Weevils.

Delta State scored first, with Jacob Hill singling to start the game, stealing third, and scoring on a groundout by Cade Greer. Arkansas-Monticello responded and built a 4-1 lead before the Statesmen chipped away in the middle innings.

Bo Rock highlighted Delta State’s offense with a home run and a double. Austin Estes added a double and stole a base. Trailing late, the Statesmen scored three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game. Hill stole three bases in the contest, pressing the defense.

The Boll Weevils answered in the ninth, forcing extra innings before scoring the game-winning run in the 10th. Dawson Muenzenmay took the loss in relief for Delta State, which used six pitchers. Mason Shropshire started the game for the Statesmen.

Arkansas-Monticello finished with 14 hits. Delta State will next travel to face Valdosta State for a three-game Gulf South Conference series starting Friday at 1 p.m. Central Time.
