Delta State Completes GSC Sweep of UAH with Comeback Win

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Delta State University’s baseball team completed a three-game Gulf South Conference sweep of UAH on Saturday with a 6-4 victory at Charger Park.

The Statesmen (17-13, 12-8 GSC) scored four runs in the seventh inning to erase a late deficit and win the series finale. They had won the first two games earlier in the day. UAH (13-17, 9-11 GSC) led 4-2 heading into the final inning but fell short after defensive miscues and clutch hitting by Delta State.

Peyton Badon reached base and moved into scoring position before Tucker Jones delivered a two-RBI single to tie the game at 4-4. Jacob Palazzo followed with an RBI single to give Delta State the lead, and Austin Batts added an insurance run with an RBI double, making it 6-4.

Jones led the offense with two RBIs, while Palazzo and Landon Holliman each contributed multiple hits. Batts went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. On the mound, Dawson Muenzenmay earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings. Mason Shropshire started and allowed four runs over five innings, striking out six.

Earlier Saturday, Delta State defeated UAH 10-3 behind a 14-hit effort. Tucker Jones led that attack with four hits and four RBIs, while Landon Holliman and Levi Lang added multi-hit performances. Blake King earned the win, pitching seven innings.

After dropping the series opener, Delta State responded with three consecutive wins to finish the sweep. The team now prepares to face Henderson State at Ferriss Field next Tuesday at 5 p.m.
