Delta State Blanks UAH 9-0 in Series Opener

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Delta State University’s baseball team opened its series against UAH with a 9-0 victory Thursday at Charger Park. The Statesmen improved to 16-13 overall and 11-8 in Gulf South Conference play.

Delta State’s offense was productive, tallying 14 hits. Levi Lang sparked the attack with a three-run home run in the third inning, giving the Statesmen a 3-0 lead. The team added to its lead in the fourth, with RBI singles from Landon Holliman and Tucker Jones moving the score to 5-0.

Jones led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance and three RBIs, while Lang also drove in three runs. Austin Estes collected three hits and scored twice, and Cooper Walls added two hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, Adrian Byrd was dominant, pitching eight scoreless innings to earn the win and improve to 4-0 this season. Byrd allowed four hits, struck out six, and walked three across 111 pitches. Gavin McCoy finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Delta State continued to extend its lead in the middle innings, including a two-run sixth highlighted by a two-RBI single from Jones. The scoring concluded in the ninth with a sacrifice fly from Walls. The Chargers’ best scoring chance came in the fifth when a leadoff double advanced to third base, but Byrd escaped the jam to preserve the shutout.

The series resumes Friday with a doubleheader at Charger Park, beginning at noon Central Time.
