Delta State Baseball Opens Second Half with Series at Alabama-Huntsville

Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University baseball team (15-13, 10-8 GSC) will play a three-game series against Alabama-Huntsville (13-15, 9-9 GSC) this weekend. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.

Radio coverage will be provided by the Statesmen Sports Radio Network, with Michael Gross broadcasting. The pregame show will start approximately at 2:30 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The team hopes to gain confidence and momentum from the series, which marks the start of the second half of the season. Tucker Jones continues to be a key offensive contributor, driving in 32 runs with six home runs and four doubles. He has also successfully stolen 20 of 20 base attempts. Austin Batts, who went 3-for-3 in a midweek game against Southern Arkansas, is on a seven-game hitting streak and aims to extend it this weekend.

Ryan Herbison has been a reliable long reliever out of the bullpen. The senior has pitched 17.2 innings with a 4.58 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season.

The Chargers are riding a five-game winning streak into the series, having swept AUM last weekend after salvaging a game three victory against West Florida. Caleb Mahan leads Alabama-Huntsville offensively with a .414 batting average, six extra-base hits, and 22 RBIs. Cole Loftis has been the top pitcher, with a 4.62 ERA over eight starts and 39 innings pitched, striking out 42 batters.
