Delta State baseball completes doubleheader sweep of Christian Brothers

Cleveland, Miss. — Delta State baseball earned a doubleheader sweep against Christian Brothers in Gulf South Conference play Friday at Ferriss Field. The Statesmen won Game 1 15-8 before rallying from behind to take Game 2 9-7.

Delta State’s offense was strong early in Game 1, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings. The team finished with 14 hits. Cade Greer led the offense with two home runs and four RBIs, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Austin Estes contributed two triples and two RBIs, while Bo Rock and Drew Prosek each had multi-hit games.

The Statesmen capitalized on 11 walks and three Christian Brothers errors, building a 10-2 lead after three innings. Alex McHale earned the win in relief, allowing one run over three innings with four strikeouts. Adrian Byrd started and struck out eight over 3.2 innings. Christian Brothers had 16 hits, led by Isaac Lemanski’s three-hit effort and Will Gossett’s solo home run, but Delta State maintained its lead.

In Game 2, Christian Brothers built leads of 4-1 and 7-3, with home runs from Zowen Collins and Ivan Zambrano. Delta State responded with a six-run sixth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Stone Collier and Austin Estes each delivered RBI singles, and Tucker Jones hit a go-ahead grand slam to left field, turning a 7-5 deficit into a 9-7 lead.

Jones finished 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs. Prosek added two hits and two runs, and Estes drove in another run. Dawson Muenzenmay improved to 3-0 after pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close the game. Blake King and Ryan Herbison combined for five innings before Muenzenmay finished strong.

Delta State looks to complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. from Ferriss Field.
