Dean Burrows Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director at MUW, Steps Down as Men’s Basketball Coach
Mississippi University for Women announced that Dean Burrows has been promoted to full-time Assistant Director of Athletics, according to Athletic Director Buddy Foster. Burrows will step away from his position as men’s basketball coach after five seasons leading the program.
Burrows had served as interim Assistant Athletic Director for the past year before his promotion became permanent. Foster said a national search is now underway to find MUW’s next men’s basketball coach.
“We are so blessed and appreciative to have someone like Dean Burrows as a part of the Owls’ family,” Foster said. “While it is certainly hard on the men’s basketball program to lose him, the entire Athletics Department benefits from his expertise and vision across 17 sports. We are excited for what’s ahead.”
Burrows took over a program that went 3-15 in the 2021-22 season, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and led the team to set a school record for victories in 2025-26. This year’s team won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament and made the school’s first NCAA Division III tournament appearance.
“I have been beyond blessed to have coached for nearly 30 years,” Burrows said. “This new role allows me to be more present for my family and continue to support student-athletes and coaches. I appreciate Buddy Foster for entrusting me with this responsibility and look forward to helping our department and community move forward.”
