Clark Shines, Diaz Leads as Mississippi Valley Softball Earns Split in Alabama
Montgomery, Alabama — Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team split a doubleheader with Bluefield State on Saturday at Lagoon Park. The Devilettes won game two 4-1 but fell in game one 8-7.
In the second game, Ashtyn Clark pitched a complete game, allowing just one unearned run while striking out two. Her performance helped the Devilettes improve to 1-7 overall. Michelle Diaz led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk, and a run scored. Diaz’s performance extended her streak of reaching safely in all eight plate appearances during the doubleheader.
Diaz was also a key contributor in the first game, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a single, two walks, two stolen bases, an RBI, and a run scored. Devyn Dotson added a two-run double, and Jamiyah Gary contributed two singles and a walk. Despite a late rally, Mississippi Valley fell just short, losing by a single run.
The Devilettes will look to close the tournament with back-to-back wins over CIAA schools when they face Lincoln University on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Montgomery. The team continues to seek its first win in conference play this season.
