Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beats Owls 18-8 in Tucson

The University of the Ozarks softball team concluded its weekend at the Tucson Invitational Games with an 18-8 run-rule loss to NCAA Division III No. 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Kino Sports Complex.

The Owls, now 9-8 overall, were out-hit 21-9 by the Stags, who led from start to finish and scored in every inning except the sixth.

Senior designated hitter Baron Brack had a strong day for MUW, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. He drove in the Owls’ first four runs, including an RBI single in the third that scored Zach Johnson, and a three-run homer in the fifth to cap a five-run frame.

Zach Johnson and catcher Michael O’Neill also contributed offensively, each recording two hits. Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and a walk. O’Neill was 2-for-4 with RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings.

Pitcher Zach Connell took the loss for MUW, going 2.2 innings and allowing eight runs, five earned. He was the first of four Owls pitchers in the game.
