Blue Mountain splits doubleheader with Freed-Hardeman in NAIA softball
Blue Mountain Christian University faced Freed-Hardeman University in a doubleheader Wednesday at the BMCU Sportsplex. Both programs are ranked or receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll.
The Lions took the first game 4-1. Freed-Hardeman scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the fourth and fifth. Anna Harrison scored for Blue Mountain after a defensive pressure situation. Mikaylah Fuqua led the Toppers with two hits in the game. Gail Wisher pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four runs.
In the second game, Blue Mountain responded with an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings. The Toppers scored two runs in the first, one in the second, and three in the fifth. Anna Harrison had a strong offensive showing, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Laklyn Nichols added two hits and two runs, while Neely Barrier drove in two runs. Other contributors included Aspen Teague, Mikaylah Fuqua, and Chloe Shelton.
Pitcher Bri Langley earned the win, tossing a five-inning shutout and limiting Freed-Hardeman to two hits. Blue Mountain continues conference play this weekend, aiming to build on the momentum from their second-game performance.
