Blue Mountain Softball Sweeps Brewton-Parker with Walk-Off in Second Game

Blue Mountain Christian University’s softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Brewton-Parker on Saturday. The Toppers won Game 1 7-5 and secured Game 2 with a 4-3 comeback victory, capped by a walk-off RBI single from Aspen Teague, according to school officials.

In Game 1, Blue Mountain took control with a five-run second inning after falling behind in the first. Vaye Savage drove in a run with a single, and Mikaylah Fuqua hit a three-run triple to give the Toppers a 5-1 lead. Brewton-Parker scored two runs in the third and two more in the sixth to close the gap. Blue Mountain added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings on RBI singles by Fuqua and Teague, respectively.

Janna Shaw earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing five runs, three earned. Madison Montgomery finished with 1.2 scoreless innings to record the save. Fuqua led the offense with two hits and four RBIs, while Neely Barrier added two hits and scored twice. Gail Wisher also contributed two hits, and Savage and Teague each drove in runs.

In Game 2, Blue Mountain struck first with a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Camp. Brewton-Parker responded with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Toppers began their rally in the fifth, with Barrier driving in a run to make it 3-2. They tied the game in the sixth on a wild pitch that scored Wisher. In the bottom of the seventh, Teague lined a walk-off single through the right side to score Fuqua and secure the sweep, school officials said.

The Toppers collected eight hits in the second game. Lakyn Nichols led with two hits, and Teague and Barrier each drove in runs. Anna Harrison, Fuqua, and Bre Ramsey also contributed hits. Bri Langley started in the circle, allowing three runs over four innings. Montgomery earned the win in relief, striking out three over three innings with just one hit allowed.

The sweep boosts Blue Mountain’s momentum as they prepare to continue SSAC conference play in the coming weeks.
