Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team finishes third at BMCU Spring Classic

The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team finished third at the BMCU Spring Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi. The tournament included 16 teams, five of which were ranked in the NAIA Top 25, along with two receiving votes, making for a highly competitive field.

Alex Nordstrom led the Toppers, tying for fifth place with rounds of 75, 73, and 75 for a total of 223. His performance helped Blue Mountain Christian finish strong against a tough field on the par-72 course. Cobey Riddle also posted a notable performance, finishing sixth overall after shooting 76, 77, and 72 for a 225 total. Riddle’s final round of 72 was one of the best closing rounds for the team.

Other Topper finishers included Simon Meiby, who placed 15th with scores of 77, 77, and 75 (229), and Shameer Jayram, who tied for 35th with rounds of 81, 77, and 79 (237). Acen Lambert tied for 45th after shooting 78, 79, and 82 (239). Adrian Perez finished tied for 58th with rounds of 80, 88, and 76 (244).

Jeremiah Bell and Damil Ataullah tied for 60th place. Bell posted rounds of 78, 86, and 81, while Ataullah shot 85, 79, and 81 for a total of 245. Tucker Parker tied for 66th after rounds of 77, 85, and 87 (249), and Eli Cooper tied for 72nd with scores of 78, 87, and 86 (251). Daniel Sharpe and Thomas Hiscoke rounded out the team, finishing 78th with totals of 257 each.

Blue Mountain Christian head coach Kevin Barefield expressed pride in his team’s performance against one of the strongest fields this spring. “This was a really competitive field with a lot of nationally ranked programs, and I thought our guys represented us well,” Barefield said. “Alex and Cobey both had strong tournaments and showed the kind of consistency we expect from our leaders. Hosting an event like this against this level of competition helps prepare us for what’s ahead, and I’m proud of the way the team competed from start to finish.”

The team’s third-place finish continues a successful spring season, demonstrating their ability to compete at a high level against top programs.
