Bethune-Cookman Sweeps Alcorn in SWAC Baseball Series

Bethune-Cookman swept a SWAC baseball doubleheader against Alcorn on Saturday at Willie E. ‘Rat’ McGowan Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi. The Wildcats won the opener 12-2 and the second game 14-3, extending their winning streak in conference play.

In game one, Maikol Lucena drove in five runs, helping Bethune-Cookman jump to an early lead. The Wildcats scored in five different innings, including a five-run fourth that put the game out of reach. Jeter Polledo and Christopher Watson contributed offensively, with Watson hitting a three-run triple. Bethune-Cookman pitcher Edwin Sanchez earned his fifth win of the season, holding Alcorn to one earned run over seven innings.

Alcorn’s Asher Friedman had three hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Braves. Starter Kayden Sutton took the loss, surrendering eight runs over five innings. The Wildcats improved to 16-7 overall and 5-0 in SWAC play, while Alcorn dropped to 5-18 overall and 1-4 in conference.

In the second game, Bethune-Cookman continued its offensive surge, with Darryl Lee driving in six runs. The Wildcats scored five runs in the third inning and six in the sixth, including a two-run double by Lee that cleared the bases. The Braves fought back with three runs across the third and fourth innings but couldn’t slow the Wildcats’ offensive momentum.

Jorge Rodriguez and Watson each contributed multiple hits for Bethune-Cookman, which moved to 17-7 overall and 6-0 in SWAC play. Yoni Castro suffered the loss for Alcorn, allowing seven runs in just 2.2 innings. The Wildcats’ Tanner Boccabello pitched six innings, striking out nine to earn his second win of the season. Alcorn will next play a nonconference game against Tougaloo on Tuesday.
