Bethune-Cookman edges Jackson State in series finale with three home runs
Bethune-Cookman defeated Jackson State 5-4 in the final game of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series Sunday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Wildcats used three home runs to rally from an early deficit and secure the win.
Jackson State took a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning, highlighted by Hederick Torres’s two-RBI single. Pierre Cabral led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Edwin Lemus Hudson Jr. added two hits and a run scored, while Tyshon Patty went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Jayden Lopez (3-2) started for Jackson State and pitched seven innings, allowing five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts. He was relieved by Jaedeyn Edwards for the final inning. Bethune-Cookman’s Sergio Rivera hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Wildcats the lead for good.
Erick Almonte opened scoring with an inside-the-park home run for Bethune-Cookman in the first inning. The Wildcats added two more runs in the fifth on Andrey Martinez’s homer before Rivera’s decisive blast in the sixth. Jackson State continues its road trip with a three-game series against Grambling State starting Thursday.
