Bethune-Cookman Dominates Mississippi Valley State in SWAC Series

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Bethune-Cookman University baseball team won both games of a SWAC series against Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, defeating the Diamond Devils 13-2 and 15-0 in seven-inning games. The Wildcats improved to 25-11 overall and 12-3 in conference play, while Mississippi Valley State dropped to 11-21 overall and 7-8 in SWAC standings.

The Wildcats took an early lead and maintained control throughout both games. In the first game, Kendall Brookins drove in two RBIs on a third-inning double and also reached on a hit-by-pitch before stealing second base. Eric Williams singled and walked twice. Isreal Ramos and Stephen Landaz also recorded hits, with contributions from Cody Leming and Tom Early, the latter scoring a run. Bethune-Cookman’s offense proved too much for Mississippi Valley State to handle.

In the second game, Johnny Escobalez Jr. was the only Diamond Devil to reach base twice, with a walk and a single. Leming added a stolen base and a hit, while Tanner Aoki, Jace Jones, Luke Richard, and Early each recorded hits. Bethune-Cookman’s pitching staff was solid, with relief pitchers Brock Lenhardt, Kobe Ladd, Daniel Scott, and Angel Escobar each tossing scoreless innings.

Mississippi Valley State’s next game will be against Memphis on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The team continues to follow its schedule, while fans can stay updated by following the Delta Devils’ social media accounts, including Twitter/X and Instagram.

The series history favors Bethune-Cookman, which leads 21-3 since 1983. The Wildcats have now won two consecutive games against the Diamond Devils, whose last victory came on April 10, 2026.
