Berry edges Millsaps 5-2 in softball on Sunday
Mount Berry, Ga. — Berry College topped Millsaps College 5-2 in the third game of their Southern Athletic Association softball series Sunday at Kay Williams Field. Berry improved to 19-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while Millsaps fell to 17-8 and 3-3 in the league.
Berry took an early lead with three runs in the first inning, capitalizing on two hits. The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their advantage. Millsaps responded with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
Hailey Peterson pitched all six innings for Millsaps, allowing no earned runs on seven hits. She struck out three batters and walked three, throwing 89 pitches, 58 for strikes. Peterson also contributed offensively, recording two hits—including a double—and driving in two runs.
Offensively, Millsaps was led by Kodi Jimmie, who doubled and drew a walk for a 1.667 on-base percentage. Caroline Mathis and Ella Morgan Sears each delivered back-to-back hits in the third inning, sparking the Majors’ offense. In the fourth inning, Peterson doubled to drive in a run, narrowing the gap to 3-1.
The game remained competitive until Berry added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and maintained their lead through the final innings. Millsaps’s defense made several key plays, including unassisted outs by Kadence Cannon and Caroline Mathis. Peterson also stole second base in the sixth but was ultimately left stranded as Berry secured the win.
