Belhaven’s Cole Burton Named CCS Pitcher of the Week
Atlanta — Belhaven senior pitcher Cole Burton has been named the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is Burton’s first career weekly honor.
Burton pitched 7.2 innings in Belhaven’s series against Covenant, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out a career-high 10 batters. His performance helped the No. 19 Blazers secure a series victory and improve to 20-8 overall.
Through seven starts this season, Burton is 4-1 with 27 strikeouts over 30.1 innings. His outing against Covenant set the tone early in the series, providing the team with a strong chance to control the weekend and win two of three games.
Burton’s ability to work deep into games was crucial. He navigated traffic and limited damage, preventing Covenant from big innings. His 10 strikeouts tied his season high and matched the most by a Blazer pitcher this year.
Belhaven’s pitching staff has posted a 5.63 ERA, the second-lowest in the CCS, over 232 innings this season. The Blazers will return home for a three-game series against LaGrange, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
