Belhaven Tennis Edged by Rust College in Close Match

The Belhaven men’s and women’s tennis teams lost a 4-3 decision to Rust College on Saturday morning at Parham Bridges. Rust claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Belhaven’s only doubles win came at No. 2, where Mark Breedlove and Briley Oakes defeated their opponents 6-2. The Blazers responded in singles play, winning three matches to stay competitive.

Jesus Diaz led the way at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-3. Stephen Spencer continued his strong start to the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, marking his fourth singles victory in the first week of competition.

The most dramatic finish came at No. 6 singles, where Bernard Jackson outlasted his opponent 11-9 in a third-set super tiebreak after splitting the first two sets. Mark Breedlove also pushed his match to a deciding tiebreak at No. 4 before narrowly falling 11-9.
