Belhaven Baseball Sweeps No. 25 East Texas Baptist in Opening Homestand
PEARL, Miss. — Belhaven Baseball swept East Texas Baptist in a three-game series at Trustmark Park, winning both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader with scores of 3-1 and 10-0. The Blazers outscored the Tigers 19-4 over the weekend, extending their perfect start to the season to 4-0.
Belhaven’s pitching staff was outstanding, allowing just four runs across the series. Starting pitchers Burton, Staten, and Smith combined for 15 innings of strong performance, while relievers Rivere, Corona, and Robinson effectively worked out of jams to protect leads, according to team sources.
In the first game, Gunner Staten tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out five. The Blazers broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Blake McCarthy. They added another run in the fifth, and reliever Sage Rivere earned his first save of the season, closing out the game in the seventh.
Offensively, JD Weed led the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the opener. The Blazers continued their offensive surge in the second game, scoring five runs in the second inning and adding more through the game to secure the 10-0 shutout. Jake McCann and Austin Canale contributed multiple hits, while Braydon Evans and Shawn Mitchell-Harvard drove in key runs.
The Blazers return to Trustmark Park on Friday for a game against Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m. Follow updates on @BelhavenBlazers on Twitter and Instagram, and support the team through Team Green Giving, according to team officials.
