Arkansas Tech Sweeps Delta State Softball Doubleheader

Delta State softball was swept in a doubleheader by Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at University Field. The Golden Suns won the opener 15-1 in five innings and completed the sweep with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap, according to game summaries.

Arkansas Tech broke open the first game with a nine-run third inning. Anna Winkfield drove in eight runs on three hits, including two home runs, to lead the Golden Suns. Delta State scored once in the fourth inning when Hallie Turner scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a single and advancing on a walk. Delta State’s highlights in the first game included Turner going 1-for-1 with a run scored, Ally Agner going 1-for-2, and Calli McConnell also recording a hit.

The Lady Statesmen broke up the shutout in the seventh when Joryie McKnight stole home during a double-steal. McKnight finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen home base. Maeve Lavoy pitched a complete game, allowing 13 hits, seven runs, and striking out four over seven innings, according to the summary.

Delta State will return to conference play later this week, hosting a three-game series at University Field against the 20th-ranked Falcons from the University of Montevallo. The first game is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. CT.
