Alcorn’s Cheatham Named SWAC Impact Player of the Week

Nakia Cheatham of Alcorn State women’s basketball has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Impact Player of the Week for Feb. 3-9, the league announced Tuesday from Birmingham, Alabama.

The 6-foot, redshirt senior from Clarksdale, Mississippi, helped the Braves go 2-0 last week with home wins over Southern University and Grambling State. Cheatham averaged 13.5 points and nine rebounds during the week, totaling 27 points across the two games.

She shot 47.8% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc. In the win over Grambling, Cheatham scored 18 points on 8 of 16 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, and dished out a game-high seven assists. She also recorded two steals in the game.

Alcorn State is currently on a six-game winning streak in SWAC play. The team’s next game is at Mississippi Valley State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
