Alcorn Women’s Tennis Hosts Sam Houston in Home Opener
Lorman, Mississippi — Alcorn State women’s tennis is set to host Sam Houston in its second spring match at Hall’s Ferry Tennis Courts in Vicksburg on Friday at 11 a.m., under interim head coach Kersten Vanem-Walker.
The Braves have been on the road for their past four matches, including contests against Southeastern Conference powers Mississippi State and Alabama. They are seeking their first victory over a Division I opponent this season. This matchup marks the first-ever women’s tennis meeting between Alcorn and Sam Houston.
Alcorn has won three consecutive matches at home, all in Vicksburg, dating back to last season. The team features five freshmen, with only Zoe Crimmel and Oihane Villanueva Lopez returning from last year’s squad. Freshman Hana Bajramovic leads the team with a 3-4 spring record, including a 2-3 mark at No. 2 singles and a 1-1 record at No. 1.
The doubles duo of Bajramovic and Amelia Tatafu is 2-4 at No. 1, while Bajramovic has teamed with Matea Andelic for a win at No. 3. Fellow rookie Taylor Briffa has three singles wins this spring, including two at No. 5.
