Loreman, Mississippi — Alcorn State’s volleyball team fell to Nicholls State University 3-1 Friday night inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Nicholls took an early lead in the first set, but Alcorn responded with a 10-0 run to turn the momentum. The Lady Braves closed out the set, 25-21. In the second set, Alcorn struggled to find its rhythm, falling behind 6-0 and losing 25-9.
Alcorn fought hard in the third set, overcoming an early 4-0 deficit with kills from Courtney Carter, Alexis Burton, and Cristin Webb. However, Nicholls extended its lead to 12-3 and ultimately won the set 25-12.
The Lady Braves started strong in the fourth set, taking a 2-0 lead. Despite a late rally, including kills from Webb, McNeill, and Carter, Nicholls edged out Alcorn 25-20 to clinch the victory.
Alcorn will next face Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., according to team officials.
Players featured in the match included Courtney Carter, Rylan Jones, Tomoni Giddings, Cristin Webb, Alexis Burton, and Jaylynn McNeill.
