Alcorn State Edges Prairie View in Last-Second Thriller

ALCORN, Miss. — Alcorn State men’s basketball pulled out a 76-75 victory over Prairie View A&M on Monday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The Braves secured the win with a fast-break layup in the final seconds, ending a back-and-forth game that saw 11 lead changes and seven ties.

The game was tied 39-39 at halftime, with neither team able to establish a clear advantage. Prairie View relied on transition offense early, while Alcorn State countered with inside plays and second-chance opportunities to stay even through the opening 20 minutes.

Prairie View’s Dontae Horne led all scorers with 32 points on 12-of-23 shooting, including four three-pointers. Cory Wells added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers, who shot 48.1 percent from the field and made 16 of 19 free throws, maintaining consistent pressure on the host team.

Alcorn State responded with a balanced offensive effort and crucial plays down the stretch. Omari Hamilton scored 20 points with nine rebounds, providing a strong presence inside. Nick Woodard and Tycen McDaniels added 11 and 12 points, respectively, while Shane Lancaster contributed nine points and five assists.

The Braves dominated in the paint, outscoring Prairie View 48-30, and held a 16-2 edge in second-chance points. Their bench also played a key role, contributing 27 points. With the game tied at 75 in the final seconds, Alcorn State forced a turnover and pushed the ball in transition. Williams finished with a layup with two seconds remaining to seal the victory and send the home crowd into celebration.
