Alcorn State Edges Bethune-Cookman on Last-Second Play
LOLMAN, Miss. — A last-second lob pass from Jameel Morris to Shane Lancaster secured a 57-55 comeback win for Alcorn State over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Braves (6-18, 5-7 SWAC) improved to 4-1 at home against Bethune-Cookman (13-12, 10-2 SWAC). This marked Alcorn’s first back-to-back wins of the season after defeating Mississippi Valley State last week.
Omari Hamilton led Alcorn with 11 points. Shane Lancaster scored 10, and Tycen McDaniels added seven points and six rebounds. Davian Williams made his only three-point attempt and was 3-for-4 from the field.
Early in the game, the Wildcats built a 25-12 lead after a Tyler Andrews three-pointer and a layup from Arterio Morris. Bethune-Cookman led 32-18 before Alcorn closed the half with a 6-0 run. The Wildcats shot 60% in the first half, while the Braves shot 36%.
In the second half, Morris’s putback gave BCU a 43-32 lead. Alcorn responded with a 15-3 run, tying the game at 47-47. Davian Williams knocked down a three to give the Braves their first lead since the first half at 51-49.
Bethune-Cookman regained the lead at 55-53 before Morris tied the game with a drive. Lancaster then scored on a lob pass from Morris in the final seconds to seal the victory.
Alcorn, which shot just 1 of 8 from three-point range, scored 23 points off 23 Wildcat turnovers. Despite being outrebounded 29-17, the Braves capitalized on turnovers to secure the win.
