Alcorn State beats Jackson State on walk-off in MLB HBCU Power Series

Jackson State lost its final game of the MLB HBCU Power Series 8-7 to Alcorn State on Sunday night. The game ended with a walk-off infield single from the Braves, according to the teams.

The Tigers, who finished with a 1-2 record in the series, collected eight hits. Pierre Cabral went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Ledy Alvarez finished 2-for-4.

Joe Williams, the fifth pitcher used by Jackson State, took the loss after pitching more than an inning of relief. He allowed four hits and one run in the bottom of the ninth. Reliever Talmadge Davis inherited runners at first and second but was unable to prevent the winning run from scoring.

The game saw Jackson State jump to an early lead. Tyree Reed tripled to right field and scored on a groundout by Cabral in the first inning. The Tigers extended their lead to 6-0 with a big fourth inning, highlighted by unearned runs and a two-RBI single from Cabral.

Alcorn State rallied in the fifth and seventh innings, taking the lead 7-6. Chase Moore and Keaten Hawk contributed RBIs to the comeback. In the ninth, Tyshon Patty singled to tie the game at 7-7. However, Hawk’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth scored the winning run for the Braves.
