Alcorn Softball Sweeps Mississippi Valley State in Midweek Doubleheader

Alcorn State Softball completed a doubleheader sweep of Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday at the Alcorn Softball Complex in Lorman, Mississippi. The Braves won the first game 6-0 and the second 5-1, improving their season records to 11-18 and 1-20, respectively.

In the opener, Alainah Felton pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits over seven innings. She struck out five and walked three, earning her second win of the season. The Braves capitalized on a five-run first inning, led by Sanai Salvant’s triple and a series of timely hits. Cotten went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Morgan contributed a triple and a run scored during her first home run of the year. Mississippi Valley State starter Ashtyn Clark took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in six innings.

In the nightcap, Morgan’s two-run home run in the first inning set the tone for Alcorn. Chiara Olison pitched a complete game, allowing just six hits and one unearned run. Her performance helped the Braves extend their lead, with solid contributions from McBride, Ruffin, and Acevedo at the plate. Mississippi Valley State’s Madison Bruce took the loss after surrendering five runs on 11 hits over six innings. Sheridan Kynard led the Delta Devilettes offensively with three hits.

With the sweep, Alcorn looks ahead to SWAC play, traveling to face Southern in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a three-game series starting Friday. The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday.
