Alcorn Softball Loses Twice at River City Classic

Alcorn State softball lost both of its games Saturday at the River City Classic in Jackson, Mississippi. The Braves fell 7-6 to Alabama A&M and 15-5 to Jackson State, both in non-conference matchups at JSU Softball Field.

In the opener against Alabama A&M, Alcorn led 4-1 midway through the fourth inning but was unable to hold the lead. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-4 advantage. The Braves tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth but lost on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh, 7-6. Dylann Rambally earned the win for Alabama A&M, while Chiara Olison took the loss for Alcorn.

Yahnya Acevedo hit her second home run of the day and third of her career in the second game, but Jackson State responded with a large early lead. The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning and added seven more in the third to lead 15-2. Alcorn scored three runs in the fourth but could not overcome the deficit, falling 15-5 in five innings. Madison McDowell pitched three innings for Jackson State to earn the win, while Olivia Miller took the loss for the Braves.

Alcorn’s Acevedo went 2-for-4 with two home runs across both games. Sanai Salvant and Ka’Miya Dillon also contributed offensively in the first game. The Braves fell to 1-2 overall after Saturday’s losses.
