Alabama State pulls away from Alcorn State in men’s basketball
Alcorn State men’s basketball lost 81-66 to Alabama State on Monday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.
The Braves kept the game close in the first half, trailing 38-32 at halftime. They shot 36.7% from the field in the opening period and held Alabama State to four made three-pointers.
Tycen McDaniels led Alcorn State with 14 points, eight rebounds, and a strong presence in the paint. Shane Lancaster scored 15 points, including three three-pointers, and added three steals. Jameel Morris contributed 10 points and four assists, while Travis Roberts scored 10 off the bench with three three-pointers.
Alcorn State showed resilience early in the second half, trimming the deficit to three points during a stretch fueled by transition scoring and offensive rebounds. The Braves finished with 16 second-chance points and 28 points in the paint, continuing their interior pressure despite Alabama State’s size advantage.
Alabama State pulled away late, shooting 52% from the field and making 21 free throws. The Hornets outscored the Braves 43-34 in the second half to secure the victory.
Alcorn State returns home for its next game on Saturday, Jan. 17, with a scheduled tipoff at 3 p.m. The team aims to build on its effort and prepare for upcoming conference matchups.
