Alabama A&M Edges Alcorn in Series Finale

Huntsville, Ala. — Alabama A&M defeated Alcorn State 10-6 on Sunday at Bulldog Field, winning the rubber game of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series. Tervell Johnson fueled the Bulldogs’ comeback with three RBIs, including a triple and a single, helping erase a fifth-inning deficit.

Johnson, who went 2-for-2 with two walks, delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning to put Alabama A&M ahead for good. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the sixth inning, sending seven batters to the plate. AJ Anderson scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and Johnson’s second wild pitch scored him to give Alabama A&M the lead. Chris Walker added an RBI single, and Brycen Hammonds drove in a run with a single to center.

Hammonds finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Rynzo Crutcher (1-1) earned the win after three scoreless relief innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. Bryce Dolce closed the game with three innings of one-run ball, striking out three for his first save of the season.

Alcorn State opened the scoring with a three-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Julian Jarrett, who finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs. The Braves took a 5-4 lead in the fourth on Jarrett’s double and Rayfield Adams III’s RBI single. Starting pitcher Yoni Castro struggled, allowing four earned runs on five hits over 3.2 innings, with five walks. Nicholas Johnson took the loss after two runs in relief.

Alabama A&M’s 11 walks proved costly for Alcorn, with four pitchers issuing free passes. Jarrett and catcher Nico Garcia, who went 2-for-5 with a run and RBI, sparked the Bulldogs’ offense. Alcorn returns home to Lorman, Mississippi, to host Champion Christian College in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 17, starting at 2 p.m.
