Alabama A&M Beats Mississippi Valley State Despite 17 Steals
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Mississippi Valley State University’s women’s basketball team recorded a season-high 17 steals Saturday but lost to Alabama A&M 95-55 at the Alabama A&M Event Center.
The Devilettes (4-19, 3-9 SWAC) kept up their aggressive defense, but the Bulldogs (16-9, 12-1 SWAC) controlled the game. Alabama A&M leads the all-time series 32-13 since 2005-06 and has won the last two meetings.
Jaeda Murphy led Mississippi Valley State with seven assists, her highest total this season, along with eight points and four rebounds. Sydney Thompson scored 12 points, her career-best for points and minutes (20), and added two steals. Ja’la Douglas contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three steals, all season highs.
Ariel Jefferson scored 11 points, while Jakyrra Sandifer and Keanna Coburn each added blocked shots. Taylor Crawford tied her personal record with three steals. The team’s next game is Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M at home in Itta Bena.
