Darby, Holloway new Ole Miss men’s basketball radio team
Aug. 18, 2025 — Ole Miss has announced a new men’s basketball radio broadcast crew for the 2025-26 season, naming veteran broadcaster Gary Darby as play-by-play announcer and former Rebel standout Murphy Holloway as color analyst.
The pair will replace longtime voices David Kellum, who stepped away from basketball duties while continuing to call Ole Miss football and baseball, and Marc Dukes, who retired after the 2024-25 season.
Both Darby and Holloway are familiar names for Rebel Nation. Darby, who began his career in 1990 with Ole Miss women’s basketball, has spent more than 35 years in sports broadcasting, including time on Ole Miss baseball and football broadcasts. Most recently, he served as studio host for the Memphis Grizzlies radio network.
“I’m really honored to get the opportunity, and I appreciate all of those that are involved, especially David Kellum who gave me my first opportunity in the business,” Darby said. “It’s an exciting time for basketball at Ole Miss, and I really look forward to working with Murphy Holloway.”
Holloway, the program’s all-time leading rebounder, played four seasons for the Rebels and helped lead Ole Miss to the 2013 SEC Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Following his college career, he played professional basketball overseas for a decade in Turkey, Italy, France, Israel and South Korea.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to cover this program and get to work with Gary Darby,” Holloway said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to learn the game at a high level and being back around the program.”
Ole Miss head coach Chris Beard praised the transition while thanking Kellum and Dukes for their years of service.
“We greatly appreciate David Kellum and Marc Dukes for their loyalty and contributions to Ole Miss basketball,” Beard said. “We look forward to working with Gary Darby and Murphy Holloway this season.”
Kellum, a nine-time Mississippi Sportscaster of the Year and the longtime “Voice of the Rebels,” will continue his 27th season calling Ole Miss football and his 48th on baseball broadcasts.
Dukes, who previously coached under Rod Barnes at Ole Miss and later led Northwest Mississippi Community College to two state championships, capped his tenure as analyst after the 2024-25 season.
The new radio crew will debut with the start of the 2025-26 Ole Miss men’s basketball season.
