Northeast Mississippi and Wallace State Play to 1-1 Tie in Baseball Battle

Northeast Mississippi and Wallace State Community College-Hanceville finished in a 1-1 tie after seven innings of play, in a game held in Hanceville, Alabama, that lasted approximately two hours and thirty-eight minutes with an attendance of 70 fans.

The Tigers took an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Brody Winemiller led off with a single to center, and advanced on a wild pitch before Conner McKnattrf was hit by a pitch. Colin Flurry then homered to center, driving in three runs. After that, Hank Eaton and Kieran Colemanss contributed with singles, and Northeast Mississippi’s offense pushed across four runs to establish an early 4-0 advantage.

Wallace State responded in the third inning, scoring a single run on a sacrifice fly from I. Navarro that allowed C. Clemmons to score, making the score 4-1. The game remained relatively quiet until the fifth inning when Wallace State hit a home run to left center, with A. Boileau going deep and driving in an RBI, narrowing the score to 4-2. Wallace State added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from D. Martinez, bringing the score to 4-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wallace State mounted a significant rally, scoring seven runs to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 10-9 lead. Multiple singles, walks, and hit-by-pitches contributed to the comeback, highlighted by a two-RBI single from C. Seymore. Northeast responded with a run in the same inning, but it was not enough to avoid the tie. C. Cumming and C. Boileau singled to bring runners across, resulting in a final score of 1-1.

On the mound, Ayden Jacobs pitched five innings for Northeast, allowing four hits and three runs, with three strikeouts and one home run surrendered. Clark Janzen threw 1.1 innings, giving up five hits and seven runs, including a costly seven-run seventh inning for the Tigers. Wallace State’s Jacob James earned the win with 2.1 innings, surrendering only one hit and striking out two, while Rhys Klein pitched 2.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs, including a home run. The game featured a total of 19 hits and two errors, with both teams demonstrating offensive resilience in a closely contested matchup.
