Pascagoula wins OT thriller over Callaway to advance to title game

Pascagoula survived a late rally and pulled out a 53-51 overtime win over Callaway in a tightly contested boys matchup Monday night.

Pascagoula built an early cushion, taking a 16-8 lead after the first quarter, but Callaway steadily chipped away. The Chargers outscored Pascagoula 13-7 in the second quarter and held them to just three points in the fourth, forcing a 39-39 tie at the end of regulation.

In overtime, Pascagoula regained control, edging Callaway 14-12 in the extra period to secure the two-point victory.

Blake Nettles led Pascagoula with 12 points and dominated the glass with 17 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. Adam Griffin and Jacob Griffin added 11 points each, with Jacob Griffin knocking down three three-pointers. Ireyion Harvey contributed nine points and nine rebounds, while Marcus Cooper finished with eight points.

As a team, Pascagoula held a 45-40 rebounding advantage and converted 13 of 22 free throws in the win.

Callaway was paced by Braxton Ward, who led all scorers with 21 points, including three three-pointers. Shamarr Cameron added 10 points and five assists, while Jaylen James and Tyler Taylor scored nine points apiece. Taylor also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Callaway finished 19-of-60 from the field and 9-of-17 at the free-throw line, but Pascagoula’s edge on the boards and timely scoring in overtime proved to be the difference.
