Mitchell’s Big Night Leads Kossuth to 12-0 Win Over Pine Grove
KOSSUTH — Caliann Mitchell delivered a perfect night at the plate as the Kossuth Varsity Aggies defeated Pine Grove 12-0 on Tuesday.
Kossuth scored in every inning it came to bat, putting up four runs in the first, six in the second, and two more in the third to close out the run-rule victory. The Aggies finished with 12 runs on 11 hits, while Pine Grove was limited to two hits.
Mitchell went 3-for-3 with two triples and a double, driving in multiple runs and setting the tone early. In the bottom of the first inning, her two-run triple helped spark a four-run frame. Hallie Kate Smith added an RBI single, and the Aggies quickly built a 4-0 lead.
The offense exploded again in the second inning, plating six runs on four hits. Mitchell tripled again to bring home two runs. Madeline Rhodes worked a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, Audree Butler added an RBI single, another run scored during a double play, and an error allowed an additional run to cross, pushing the lead to 10-0.
Kossuth capped the scoring with two runs in the third inning, highlighted by Butler’s single to center field, extending the advantage to 12-0.
Butler joined Mitchell with three hits, while Smith added two hits in three at-bats. The Aggies showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, with Chloe Clement and Carsyn Rinehart each earning two free passes. Alana Lewis added pressure on the bases with two stolen bases.
In the circle, Kossuth pitchers were dominant. Hallie Kate Smith started and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Carsyn Rinehart followed with two scoreless innings, giving up one hit while striking out three to secure the win. The Aggies’ staff combined to allow just two hits and no runs.
For Pine Grove, Lyndi Holloway accounted for both Panther hits, going 2-for-2. Pine Grove turned one double play defensively.
Caroline Jones took the loss after allowing eight runs in the opening inning. Edie Chapman worked two innings in relief, surrendering four runs, three earned.
With the win, Kossuth moves forward to host Ripley on Thursday, riding the momentum of a strong offensive and pitching performance.
