Mississippi State Women’s Tennis Hosts Four Matches at Home
STARKVILLE, Miss. — No. 37 Mississippi State women’s tennis kicks off a four-match home stretch over five days, beginning with SEC play on Feb. 26. The Bulldogs will host No. 14 Tennessee in a doubleheader before facing Eastern Kentucky and Kentucky at home. The stretch concludes with a rescheduled match against Memphis on March 2.
Mississippi State enters the stretch aiming for its first SEC victory after falling 4-1 to No. 29 Alabama this past weekend. The Bulldogs are 24-6 in doubleheader matches this season and are ranked 37th nationally by the ITA.
In doubles, the duo of Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz is ranked No. 13 in the ITA Doubles Rankings. The pair secured their first win of the season with a 6-0 victory over Georgia Southern’s Mackenzie Leopold and Evelyn Warkentin on Feb. 6.
Mississippi State will face No. 14 Tennessee after the Volunteers defeated Kentucky 4-0. The Bulldogs are 11-41 all-time against Tennessee and aim to bounce back from last season’s 4-0 loss. Their most recent win over the Volunteers was in 2021 in Starkville, with a 4-3 result.
Eastern Kentucky, which is riding a four-match winning streak, defeated Western Kentucky and Bowling Green in a doubleheader on Feb. 15. The Colonels lead their all-time series against Mississippi State 2-1, with the Bulldogs winning the last meeting 4-0 in Starkville. Kentucky, meanwhile, will travel from Alabama for Saturday’s match. The Wildcats are 7-44 all-time versus Mississippi State, with the last win in 2022 in Lexington.
