Delta State Baseball Heads to South Regional in Pensacola
The Delta State University baseball team is heading to Pensacola, Florida, for the NCAA Division II South Regional tournament. The Statesmen, with a 31-21 record, will compete in a four-team double-elimination bracket from May 14-17.
Delta State will face the University of West Florida, Lee University, and Edward Waters University. The winner of this regional will advance to a best-of-three Super Regional against the Tampa Regional champion, which includes the University of Tampa, Rollins College, the University of West Alabama, and Trevecca Nazarene University.
The tournament will be held at Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola. Fans can watch the games online at ncaa.com, listen on the Statesmen Sports Network and Majic 107.5 FM, or follow live statistics at goargos.com. Tickets for single-day or regional passes are available through the GoArgos website.
Delta State is making its 38th appearance in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament. The team last reached the regional in 2021 and has advanced to the Super Regional twice, most recently in 2019. The program has won 12 regional championships and secured a national title in 2004 with a school-record 54 wins.
Lee University, with a 36-17 record, is making its third NCAA regional appearance since joining the NCAA in 2015. The Flames are seeded second in the Gulf South Conference tournament. They and Delta State will meet for the third time in the postseason, with their last game a 5-4 loss for Lee in the GSC tournament.
West Florida, the No. 1 seed, is hosting the regional for the first time since 2023. The Argonauts earned an automatic bid after winning the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament. This will be their first matchup against Edward Waters, the only non-GSC team in the regional, which is making its first NCAA appearance since 2011 after winning the SIAC tournament.
The regional schedule begins Thursday, with West Florida facing Delta State at 1 p.m. CT, followed by Florida Southern versus West Alabama at 5 p.m. The tournament continues through Sunday, with potential elimination and championship games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
