Northeast CC basketball alumni update

Jan. 13, 2025-The Northeast Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s basketball programs have alumni that are scattered across the country at four-year institutions.
The following is an update on how members of the Northeast family have fared through the first half of the 2024-25 season.
Keithean Brooks is in his second year at Delta State University. Brooks is averaging 19.4 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent from the field. The Walls native has six 20-point games on the season. Brooks was named a Preseason All-Gulf South Conference (GSC) performer.

Allen Hughes is in his first season at Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University. Hughes is averaging 10.5 points and 3.6 assists while shooting 45.6 percent from the field. Hughes scored a season-high 17 points in his debut with the Bucs on November 8 against Tuskegee (Ala.) University. The Clinton native has reached double figures in his last seven contests.

Anthony Johnson is in second year at University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). Johnson is averaging 22.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and two steals while shooting 48.8 percent from the field. The Birmingham, Ala., native has three 30-point games, including a season-high 34 points twice against Stillman (Ala.) College and Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College in November. Johnson has collected Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honors four times so far this season.

Jonathan Lucas is in his second season at Belhaven University. Lucas is averaging 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. The Jackson native scored a season-high 16 points against the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) on November 16. Lucas recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds against Berry (Ga.) College on December 19.

Calysia Phillips is in her first season at Mississippi University for Women. The former All-American at Northeast is averaging 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds. The Lyon native has tied a season-high with 26 points three times. Phillips has scored in double figures in nine of the 11 games so far this year.

Corey Stephenson is in his second season at California State University at Bakersfield. Stephenson has started in 15 games for the Roadrunners. He is averaging 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 49.4 percent from the field. The Hueytown, Ala., native scored a season-high 21 points against Northeastern (Mass.) University on November 24.

CJ Williams is in his inaugural campaign at Shorter (Ga.) University. Williams in averaging 9.6 points and 3.3 rebounds. He is shooting 47.1 percent overall from the field and 37.5 percent from three. Williams scored a season-best 18 points against Georgia College on November 20. The Fort Worth, Texas, product also had season-highs of four blocks against Georgia College and three three-point field goals against Albany State (Ga.) University.
